About this item

The Solis Hearth is a 150 ml ultrasonic aroma diffuser built into a miniature fireplace. The mist it produces is lit from below and rises like a flame, an ember bed glows behind the glass front, and an infrared remote sets a 1, 3 or 5 hour timer and changes the colour of both. It runs on 5 V over USB-C and holds enough water for an evening.

  • A fire you can put on a bookshelf — There is no heat, no flame and nothing to burn — the fire is lit water vapour. That means it can go somewhere a real flame or even a candle cannot: a bookshelf, a bedside table, a rented flat, a room with a cat in it. What you get is the movement and the colour of a fire, at the scale of a paperback.
  • Set it and forget it — The remote runs a 1, 3 or 5 hour timer, so it can be started at the beginning of an evening and left. When the water runs out the waterless cut-out stops it anyway. Between the two, the failure mode of forgetting about it is that it turns itself off.
  • Scent optional — The tank takes 150 ml of plain water and a few drops of oil if you want it. Without oil it is a small humidifier with a fire in it. That is worth knowing if you live with a cat or a dog — see the safety note, because several common essential oils are toxic to animals and the honest answer is to run it with water only.

A fire you can put on a bookshelf

There is no heat, no flame and nothing to burn — the fire is lit water vapour. That means it can go somewhere a real flame or even a candle cannot: a bookshelf, a bedside table, a rented flat, a room with a cat in it. What you get is the movement and the colour of a fire, at the scale of a paperback.

What owners say

  • The flame is better in person

Photographs make it look like a screen effect. It is lit mist and you can tell the difference immediately in a dark room.
    Beatrice Lindqvist
  • Replaced candles in a house with a toddler

Same feeling in the room, nothing burning, nothing hot to touch.
    Ademola Fayemi
  • 150 ml is an evening, not a night

Refill most days if you use it nightly. The Pyre holds nearly twice as much if that matters to you.
    Gretchen Wollner
  • Ember bed sells the illusion

The printed logs behind the glass are what makes it read as a fireplace rather than as a mist box.
    Douglas Fairhurst
  • Black one against a white wall

Looks like a piece of furniture rather than an appliance. Bought the black and would again.
    Yuki Sasaki
  • Timer tops out at five hours

Which is honest, because the tank would not last longer anyway. Just do not expect all-night running.
    Ronan Delahunty
  • Independent colour for flame and embers

Warm orange fire over a deep red bed. Very few units at this price let you set them separately.
    Isabela Marques
  • Quiet enough for a bedroom

Faint water sound, no fan, no buzz.
    Karl Ostrowski
  • Works on plain water

We run it scent-free because of the cat. Still worth having for the flame alone.
    Prudence Adeyemi
  • Glass front shows dust

It is a glass panel in a living room. Wipe it weekly.
    Steven Marchetti
  • Remote means it goes on without getting up

Sofa, dark room, one button. That is how it gets used every night.
    Lindy Okonjo
  • Three months, mist still strong

I wipe the disc every couple of weeks as instructed and it has not weakened.
    Bernard Kowalczyk
  • Best at eye level or below

On a high shelf you lose the ember bed. On a coffee table it is perfect.
    Thea Nordgren
  • The white one marks more easily

Water spots show. The black hides everything. Aesthetic choice with a practical cost.
    Ruben Castillo
  • Gift for my father, who is impossible

He has had it on every evening since November.
    Lucy Ashgrove
  • No smoke, no soot, no wick

Everything I liked about candles without the things I did not.
    Emmanuel Diallo
  • Not a humidifier

It is sold clearly as a diffuser and it is one. I bought it hoping it would help a dry room and it does not - that is on me.
    Nigel Pemberton
  • Looks like it cost more

The proportions are right. It does not look like a forty dollar object.
    Saoirse Lonergan
  • Kids sit and watch it

Same way people watch a real fire. Genuinely did not expect that.
    Mateo Ferreiro
  • Fill line is hard to see

In the dark especially. Fill it with the lights on.
    Agnes Tumusiime
  • Second one for the bedroom

The living room one was doing too much work.
    Peter Vanhoutte
  • Solved the winter evening problem

Dark at four, nothing to look at. Now there is.
    Helena Brzezinska
  • Easy to clean

Cotton bud, vinegar, rinse. Two minutes.
    Craig Sutherland

Frequently asked questions

Is it actually hot? Can it burn anything?

No. There is no heating element and no flame. The plume is cool water mist lit by an LED, so it is cool to the touch and there is nothing to catch fire. It still contains water and electronics, so treat it like any other small appliance.

How quiet is it?

Not silent, whatever the source page says. The supplier's own noise chart marks the running level at 50-60 dB, which is roughly quiet conversation. Most people stop noticing it; light sleepers should not put it on the bedside table.

How long does a tank last?

The supplier does not publish it, so neither will we. The tank is 150 ml and the timer tops out at 5 hours, which suggests an evening rather than overnight. The supplier does not publish a run time.

Do I have to use essential oils?

No. It works as a plain humidifier and flame lamp on water alone, which is what we would suggest in a home with a cat or a dog — see the safety note.

Is it safe around pets?

Only on plain water. Diffusing essential oils around cats in particular is a real risk: cats lack an enzyme needed to process many of them, and tea tree, eucalyptus, citrus, pine, peppermint, cinnamon and ylang-ylang are all on veterinary caution lists. Birds are more sensitive again. If there is an animal in the house, run it with water only, or keep it in a room the animal cannot get into and ventilate afterwards.

Does it come with a plug?

No — it comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable. Any 5 V phone charger rated 2 A or better will run it, as will a laptop or a USB power bank.

Can I change the flame colour?

Yes, from the remote, and the ember bed behind the glass is on a separate button, so the plume and the logs can be different colours.

Does the water need to be anything special?

Tap water is fine in a soft-water area. If your kettle furs up, use filtered or distilled water — the same limescale will otherwise settle on the ultrasonic plate and the output will drop off.
