About this item

The Solis Vesta is a cordless table lamp built to survive a bathroom. It is IP44 splash-resistant, so steam and spray are fine; the textured dome lifts off to turn a warm amber glow into moving water-ripple light on the walls; sixteen modes run from the remote; and it holds about eight hours on a USB-C charge with no cable trailing anywhere near the water.

  • The dome comes off — With the dome on it is a lamp. With it off, the projector underneath throws moving caustics — pool-bottom light — over the tiles and the ceiling. In a small bathroom with the overhead light off, that is the entire product.
  • Built for the room everyone else avoids — IP44 means splashes from any direction are fine. That is what lets it live on a shelf above a bath or beside a shower instead of on a bedside table like everything else in this category. It is not rated to be submerged, so keep it out of the water itself.
  • No cable in a wet room — Eight hours on a USB-C charge, so it is carried in lit and carried out again. There is no argument about extension leads in a bathroom because there is no lead.
  • Type — Rechargeable cordless table lamp with ripple projection
  • Water rating — IP44 — splash-resistant. Not submersible
  • Light modes — 16, set from the remote

What owners say

  • It changed what the bathroom is for

A bath in the dark with this on the shelf is now the best half hour of the week.
    Georgina Talbot
  • No cable anywhere near the water

Cordless is the whole reason I bought this rather than the cheaper one.
    Hendrik Mulder
  • Splash-resistant, not waterproof - read that twice

IP44 means spray and steam. It does not mean it can go in the bath. Worth being clear with yourself before you buy.
    Rosa Villanueva
  • The ripple on tiles is better than on a plain wall

Hard, pale, slightly reflective. Our white metro tiles might as well have been designed for it.
    Andrew Seaborne
  • Wanted the speaker in this one

The Lumen has it and this does not. I understand why in a wet room, but I would still have liked it.
    Priya Balasubramanian
  • Eight hours is real

Charge it at the weekend, use it every evening, still going Friday.
    Kasper Lindqvist
  • Steam does not bother it

Two months of hot showers with it on the shelf. No fogging inside, no corrosion.
    Nadia Benchekroun
  • Also lives in the kitchen sometimes

It is cordless, so it goes wherever. It is on the windowsill above the sink half the time.
    Fraser McAndrew
  • Dearer than the indoor one

You pay for the rating and the battery. Worth it if the room is damp, not if it is not.
    Belinda Osei-Kwaku
  • Crystal dome is lovely in daylight too

Faceted glass on a shelf. Looks like something rather than like a gadget.
    Tomasz Wieczorek
  • Best thing in a windowless bathroom

Ours has no natural light at all. This makes it feel like a room rather than a cupboard.
    Marissa Delgado
  • Dome off in the bedroom, dome on in the bathroom

It moves between the two and does a different job in each.
    Callum Rathbone
  • Charging port cover needs pressing home

It is the seal, so make sure it clicks shut. Easy to leave half-closed in a hurry.
    Aiko Yamamoto
  • Replaced candles

Same effect on the mood, none of the worry about leaving a flame in a room with a toddler in the house.
    Emmett Castleford
  • Remote is waterproof-adjacent too

It has survived being on a wet shelf more than once. Not rated for it, but it has not minded.
    Solveig Bratland
  • Guests comment on it every time

In a bathroom. Which is not a room people usually compliment.
    Ricardo Almeida
  • Not bright enough to get ready by

It is atmosphere, not task lighting. You still need the overhead light for a shave.
    Norman Ashcroft
  • Survived a knock into a wet floor

Fell off the shelf onto tile. Still fine, which given the rating I half expected and am still pleased about.
    Lucia Ferrante
  • The one bathroom purchase I would repeat

New bath mat, new mirror, this. Only one of the three was worth it.
    Jaap Hoeksema
  • Takes a while to charge from flat

Few hours. Fine, since you charge it overnight anyway.
    Constance Oyelowo
  • Sold my sister on one

She saw it at ours and ordered it from the bathroom.
    Miles Chadderton
  • Makes a small bathroom feel bigger

Light moving across the walls does something to the sense of space. Did not expect that.
    Wiktoria Zielinska
  • Good for a nervous child at bath time

Lights off, ripple on, and bath time stopped being a fight.
    Antoine Lefebvre
  • The pattern is best within about two metres

Further away it goes soft. Small bathrooms suit it better than large ones.
    Deborah Ntuli
  • Hotel-bathroom feeling in a rented flat

    For seventy dollars.
    Sean Kavanagh
  • Six weeks, nightly, no issues

Charge, use, charge. It has been completely undramatic.
    Lotte Vermeer
  • The lift-off dome is cleverer than it sounds

Two lamps in one object, and the switch between them is a physical action rather than a menu.
    Gideon Marwood
  • No timer on this one

The Lumen has a sleep timer, this does not. You switch it off. Minor, but it is the one feature I miss.
    Harriet Sowande

Frequently asked questions

Can it go in the shower?

It can live in a bathroom that gets steamy and it can take splashes — that is what IP44 covers. It cannot be put in the shower stream, stood in water or dropped in a bath. Treat it as a lamp that tolerates a wet room, not as a waterproof one.

What is the difference between this and the Solis Lumen?

This one is IP44 splash-resistant and is the taller, stemmed table-lamp shape. The Lumen is the squat one, it is not water rated, and it has a Bluetooth speaker and a sleep timer. Bathroom: Vesta. Bedside with sound: Lumen.

Does it need charging often?

Up to eight hours a charge. For an hour a night that is most of a week. Charge time is not published by the supplier.

Is it bright enough to replace the ceiling light?

No. It is an ambient lamp — it lights the room the way a candle does, not the way a ceiling fitting does. The source page's line about it replacing the need for an overhead light is marketing; the honest version is that you will still want the overhead light to find something.

Do I need an app or Wi-Fi?

No. Remote and touch controls only. Nothing to install, nothing to register, nothing on your network.

Does the ripple need sound to move?

No. It drifts on its own with the dome off. There is no microphone in this model.

Can I leave it charging in the bathroom?

Charge it somewhere dry. IP44 covers the lamp in use; a USB cable and a plug in a wet room are a separate question, and the answer is don't.
