About this item

The Solis Medusa is a small RGB night lamp shaped like a jellyfish: a soft-white bell on a clear acrylic stem with silicone tentacles hanging under it. Five colours plus a slow gradient, a sound-reactive mode that pulses with music, and a 1000 mAh cell that charges over USB-C so it can be moved around the room without a plug.

  • The tentacles are the whole trick — The bell is lit from inside and the light runs down into the soft silicone tentacles, so they glow along their length and fade out at the tips. Because they are soft they move slightly in a draught. That is what sells it in a dark room — it reads as something floating rather than as a lamp with a shade shaped like an animal.
  • Sound mode, and why you might not want it — In sound mode the lamp pulses with whatever is playing. It is a good party trick and a bad sleep aid — a lamp that reacts to noise is a lamp that reacts to a cough at 3am. Button mode holds one steady colour at one steady brightness, and that is the mode for a bedside table.
  • Charge it once, move it anywhere — 1000 mAh over USB-C. Because it does not need to be near a socket it tends to end up wherever it is wanted — a shelf, a bathroom windowsill, a child's room during a thunderstorm. The supplier does not publish how long a charge lasts, and we are not going to invent a figure.

The tentacles are the whole trick

The bell is lit from inside and the light runs down into the soft silicone tentacles, so they glow along their length and fade out at the tips. Because they are soft they move slightly in a draught. That is what sells it in a dark room — it reads as something floating rather than as a lamp with a shade shaped like an animal.

Customer reviews

What owners say

  • It is the shape that does it

A glowing dome is a glowing dome. Tentacles and a stem make it an object people stop and look at.
    Camila Restrepo
  • Sound-reactive mode at a party

Set it going and it pulses with the music. Better than it has any right to be at this price.
    Josh Ferriter
  • Sound mode is not for sleeping

Obvious once you use it. For a night light, use the fixed colours instead.
    Marianne Dupont
  • Perfect on a bookshelf

Small enough to sit among books, interesting enough to be the thing you notice.
    Idris Salawu
  • Silicone tentacles feel good

Soft, weighted, they move. My daughter plays with them while she falls asleep.
    Hana Kobayashi
  • Bring your own plug

Cable in the box, no adapter. Standard for this category but worth knowing.
    Peter Glenn
  • Charge lasts several evenings

1000 mAh and a small LED goes further than you would think.
    Valentina Cruz
  • Amber setting is the good one

Six colours and a gradient, but the warm one is the setting it has lived on for three months.
    Duncan Morray
  • Gift for a marine-biology student

Landed perfectly. She has it on her desk at university.
    Freya Osterman
  • Not a reading lamp

It is a mood object. If you need to see the page you need another light.
    Ravi Pillai
  • Better than the one in the aquarium gift shop

Half the price and it actually charges over USB-C rather than taking three AAs.
    Nina Brekke
  • Survived a toddler

Dropped, carried, chewed at the tentacles. Still fine.
    Marcus Elvinsson
  • Looks expensive on a shelf

The clear stem and the white bell read as glass in low light.
    Cordelia Braithwaite
  • Gradient cycles a bit fast

I use a fixed colour instead. The fixed ones are lovely.
    Tunde Ogunlesi
  • It is the night light she asked for by name

The jellyfish one. Six months later, still the jellyfish one.
    Katrin Halvorsen
  • USB-C, at last

So many lamps at this price are still micro-USB. This charges off the same cable as everything else.
    Alistair Penhale
  • In the office, oddly

Bought it for home, it ended up on my desk at work. Colleagues keep asking.
    Renata Silveira
  • Tentacles arrive a bit creased

From the packaging. They relax after a day or two but the first impression is not great.
    Bill Hawksworth
  • Small enough for a bedside, big enough to matter

The size is right in a way photographs do not convey.
    Aurelie Chevalier
  • Good value for what it is

Thirty-five dollars for an object people comment on. Fine.
    Kwame Asante
  • Replaced a plug-in night light

Better light, no cable, and my son likes it. All three matter.
    Bridget Vanterpool
  • The button cycles - no remote

You press through modes. At this price that is fair, but the bigger lamps having remotes makes you notice.
    Oscar Lindstrom
  • Three of these in the house now

One per child and one that somehow ended up in our room.
    Selina Marchetti
  • Brightness adjustment is the underrated feature

Down at the bottom it is a proper night light rather than a lamp.
    Raphael Ndiaye

Frequently asked questions

How bright is it? Can it light a room?

No. It is a night lamp about 24 cm tall. It will light a bedside table, a shelf or the corner of a room and it will read as a glow rather than as illumination. The source listing claims it can serve as a room's primary light source; that claim belongs to a different, larger product on the same page and we are not repeating it.

How long does it run on a charge?

Not published. The cell is 1000 mAh, which for a small RGB LED is a long evening rather than a week, but the supplier publishes no figure, so we do not quote one.

Does it change colour on its own?

Yes — there is a slow gradient mode that drifts through the colours. It also holds any single colour if you would rather it stayed put.

Is the sound mode voice control?

Not in the sense of a smart speaker. It reacts to sound level, so a clap or the beat of a track will move it. It does not understand words and there is no app, no Wi-Fi and no account.

Can it stay plugged in all the time?

Yes, it runs from the cable. Leaving any lithium cell permanently on charge shortens its life, so if it lives in one spot it is worth unplugging it once it is full.

Is it safe in a child's room?

For a child old enough not to put things in their mouth, yes — it is a low-heat LED with no exposed bulb. The tentacles are small soft parts, so keep it away from under-3s, and it contains a lithium cell, so it should not be chewed, crushed or soaked.

Is it waterproof?

No. It is not rated for water at all. Keep it off the edge of the bath.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are confirmed and processed within 2–3 business days (Monday to Friday, excluding Chinese public holidays), then typically arrive within 6–12 business days in the US, UK, Germany and the rest of Europe, or 8–15 business days in Canada (7–14 elsewhere), tracked all the way to your door.

Is shipping free?

Yes, on every order of $29.99 or more. Below $29.99, standard shipping is a flat $9.99, shown at checkout before you pay.

What is your return policy?

30-day returns, no questions asked. If it isn't right, contact us and we'll arrange the return.

Is there a warranty?

Every product carries a full 1-year warranty on top of the 30-day money-back promise.

Which payment methods do you accept?

All major cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay — processed through Shopify's encrypted, PCI-compliant checkout.

How do I track my order?

You'll get a tracking link by email as soon as your order ships, and you can check progress any time on our Track Order page.
