About this item

The Solis Star Suit is a hooded crochet star that a baby lies into and buttons up at the shoulder — arms and legs fill four of the five points, the hood makes the fifth. Five solid colours in cotton blend, plus six holiday designs in soft knit for newborn photos.

  • It opens flat, which is the whole point — Dressing a baby is a wrestling match because most clothes are tubes you have to thread limbs through. This is not a tube. It lies open like a blanket, the baby goes on top, and two buttons at the shoulder close it. That is the difference between a five-minute struggle and a twenty-second job.
  • Cotton against the skin, acrylic for the shape — An all-cotton crochet star sags into a blob after two washes. An all-acrylic one holds its points but feels like nylon. The 80/20 blend is the compromise that lets it stay a recognisable star while the face touching the baby is still mostly cotton.
  • Made for the photograph, honestly — Nobody buys a star-shaped suit for thermal performance. It exists because a baby in it is funny and the picture gets sent to everyone, which is also why it works as a baby shower gift — it is the one item on the table that gets opened last and photographed first.
  • Holiday designs for the first Christmas photo — The same five-point star, dressed for the season: a Christmas tree with baubles and a star on the hood, a gingerbread man with a bow tie, a blue snowflake — and for October, a pumpkin, a skeleton and a little vampire. Sized for newborn photos, from 0–2 months to 6–12 months.
  • Composition — Solid colours: 80% cotton, 20% acrylic. Holiday designs: 100% nylon knit
  • Construction — Hand-crochet
  • Shape — Five-point star with an integrated hood

Customer reviews

What owners say

  • Easier to get on than I expected

I braced myself for a fight and there wasn't one — it opens right out, she goes on top, two buttons and we're done. Faster than a vest.

    Hannah P.
  • It became the photo outfit

We used it for our Christmas card shoot and three people have already asked where it came from. It photographs far better than it has any right to.

  • Best thing on the gift table

Took it to a baby shower where everyone else brought vests and muslins. This is the one that got opened last and passed around the room.

  • Lovely, but hand wash means hand wash

No complaints about the suit itself. Just know it is not going in the machine — I tried a cool cycle with a different knit once and learned my lesson.
    Aisha K.
  • Soft and it holds its shape

Washed it twice now and it still looks like a star rather than a sad blob. The cotton side is what you feel, which is the point.
    Megan L.
  • The newborn photographs came out perfectly

Exactly the shot we wanted and the crochet texture photographs beautifully.
    Marianne Lafitte
  • Cotton blend is soft enough

No redness, no fussing. That was my only worry with crochet.
    Oluwaseun Adebola
  • Hand wash, dry flat - follow it

I put the first one in on a delicate cycle and the points went soft. My fault, clearly stated on the listing.
    Tanya Brightwater
  • Sized up and glad I did

Six-week-old in the 0-1. Room to grow and it still sits right.
    Peter Lindqvist
  • The hood makes the fifth point

Which is the whole design and it works better than the flat-lay photos suggest.
    Rosario Delgado
  • Supervised wear, not sleepwear

Stated clearly on the page and worth repeating - it is a photo and dressing-up piece.
    Helen Osagie
  • Buttons are properly sewn

I checked, as you should with anything hand-finished. Solid.
    Ingeborg Nyland
  • Yellow is the one

All five are nice, the yellow photographs best.
    Camila Restrepo Vega
  • Baby shower gift that got a reaction

Everyone asked where it came from.
    Duncan Farraday
  • Each one is slightly different

Hand-crochet. Mine is a touch longer than my sister's. That is the nature of it.
    Aoife Gallagher
  • Still fits at nine months

In the larger size, with room.
    Mikael Strand
  • Worth it for one afternoon of photos

    And we will keep it.
    Nadine Okafor
  • Tiny gingerbread man for photos

I bought the gingerbread man for our newborn photo session and the little bow tie is adorable. The 0-2 month size fit my baby well.
    Kayla D.
  • First Christmas outfit sorted

The Christmas tree design with the star on the hood is our first Christmas outfit. Great for photos, and we kept it to supervised wear only.
    Brandon H.
  • Baby shower gift hit

I gave the blue snowflake baby star suit as a baby shower gift and the parents loved it. The 3-6 month size gives them room to grow.
    Allison F.
  • Cute, check the size chart

The pumpkin star suit is sweet for photos. Check the size chart before ordering since sizes are 0-2, 3-6 and 6-12 months. I only put it on while watching her.
    Derek W.
  • Skeleton was a fun surprise

We chose the skeleton for a small Halloween photo shoot and it made everyone laugh. It is for supervised photo time, not sleep, which is how we used it.
    Monica B.
  • Vampire looks adorable

The black vampire design was a hit for our newborn photo ideas. I would order the next size up if you want to use it longer.
    Scott N.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to leave a baby in it?

Only while you are watching. Check the two shoulder buttons before every wear and stop using it if either works loose, because a detached button is a choking hazard at this age. Keep the hood off the face, and do not use it as sleepwear — see the question about sleeping below.

Which size should I pick?

0–1 year or 1–2 years. Babies vary far more than the label suggests, so size up if your child is already at the top of their age band — the crochet has enough give to take a bigger baby, but not a longer one.

What is it made of?

80% cotton and 20% soft acrylic. The cotton is the part in contact with the skin; the acrylic is what stops the star shape collapsing.

Can it go in the washing machine?

No. Hand wash it gently and dry it flat. A machine cycle will stretch hand-crochet out of shape and a tumble dryer will finish the job.

Can a baby sleep in it?

Not unsupervised. It is a hooded garment, and safe-sleep guidance in the US, UK and Australia is consistent that hoods and loose knitted items do not belong in a cot with a sleeping baby. Use it for supervised wear, cuddles and photographs.

Is it a good gift?

It is one of the few baby gifts that photographs well, which is why it does better at a baby shower than another pack of vests.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are confirmed and processed within 2–3 business days (Monday to Friday, excluding Chinese public holidays), then typically arrive within 6–12 business days in the US, UK, Germany and the rest of Europe, or 8–15 business days in Canada (7–14 elsewhere), tracked all the way to your door.

Is shipping free?

Yes, on every order of $29.99 or more. Below $29.99, standard shipping is a flat $9.99, shown at checkout before you pay.

What is your return policy?

30-day returns, no questions asked. If it isn't right, contact us and we'll arrange the return.

Is there a warranty?

Every product carries a full 1-year warranty on top of the 30-day money-back promise.

Which payment methods do you accept?

All major cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay — processed through Shopify's encrypted, PCI-compliant checkout.

How do I track my order?

You'll get a tracking link by email as soon as your order ships, and you can check progress any time on our Track Order page.
