About this item
- Flapping-wing flight: the wings beat rather than a rotor spinning, which is why it moves like a bird instead of a drone.
- 2.4GHz radio remote. The box calls it “responsive, no delay in operation” — radio, not infrared, so it does not need line of sight to the bird the way an infrared toy does.
- Built-in rechargeable 3.7 V / 90 mAh lithium cell, included and charged over USB-C. No batteries to keep buying for the bird itself.
- The remote takes 2 x AAA dry cells. They are NOT in the box — buy a pair with it or it will not fly on the day it arrives.
- LED lights in the body, so it stays visible in a dim garden or hall.
- Impact-resistant shell. The manufacturer's own selling line for this model family is “fall resistant, durable impact resistant”, which tells you what it expects to happen.
- Rated 14 years and over on the box we were sent; earlier printings of the same model carry an 8+ mark. We list the higher of the two.

Product description
The Solis Falco is a remote control flying bird with flapping wings: a 2.4GHz RC bird that beats its wings instead of spinning a rotor, with LEDs in the body and a built-in battery charged over USB-C. A 2.4GHz handheld remote steers it, a built-in 3.7 V lithium cell charges over USB-C, and LEDs under the body keep it visible once the light goes. It is a toy, and it is meant to be crashed.

It flaps, so it flies like a bird
The wings are a printed membrane over a light frame, driven by a gearbox in the body. That is the whole point of it: a quadcopter hovers and a glider sinks, but a flapping wing climbs in a wide arc and banks the way the real thing does. It is also why it reads as a bird from a distance rather than as a toy.

Radio, not infrared
The remote runs on 2.4GHz radio. Infrared toys need the remote pointed at a sensor and give up the moment something crosses the beam; a radio link keeps working when the bird turns its back on you, which for something in flight is the difference between a control and a suggestion. The remote takes two AAA cells, which are not supplied.

Charge it from the same cable as everything else
The battery is a 3.7 V / 90 mAh lithium cell built into the body, charged through a USB-C socket under the fuselage. There is nothing to unscrew and no cells to replace — the manufacturer's phrasing is that it is rechargeable “to avoid the trouble of replacing the battery”, which is the honest reason it is built that way.

Safety information
Three figures the supplier does not publish. Wingspan, flight time per charge and control range are not stated on the box, in the manual or on the supplier's listing. Every other number on this page is printed on the packaging in the photographs. We would rather leave three rows of this table saying “not measured” than fill them with a figure we copied from a competitor — they will be filled in from our own bench test, and the date will be on them. Small parts. Not suitable for children under 3 years.
Customer reviews
-
It banks like a bird, not like a drone
First throw it climbed in a wide arc across the garden and my neighbour looked up. That is the whole appeal - a quadcopter never gets that reaction.
Verified purchase -
The wings survived a hedge
Went into a beech hedge at speed on the second flight. Straightened the rods, checked the tail, flew it again ten minutes later.
Verified purchase -
Better in an open field than a garden
It turns in a wide circle. Ours is too small for it and we ended up in the park, which honestly made it better.
Verified purchase -
LEDs extend the evening
Flying it at dusk is better than flying it in daylight.
Verified purchase -
USB-C on the underside
Confirmed, in case you are wondering like I was. Same cable as everything else.
Verified purchase -
Kids and adults both
I have flown it more than my son has.
Verified purchase -
No propeller to shatter
Which after two drones is the feature I care about most.
Verified purchase -
2.4 GHz is the right choice
Works in bright sun, which infrared toys do not.
Verified purchase -
Still flying after a summer
Dozens of flights, one straightened rod.

Frequently asked questions
Can it fly at dusk?
LEDs in the body keep it visible in a dim garden or hall. Fly it outdoors in still air with room around you, because a gust takes the light airframe where the gust wants to go.
What batteries does it need?
The bird has a built-in 3.7 V / 90 mAh lithium cell that charges over USB-C. The remote takes 2 AAA cells, which are not included.
Does it come with batteries?
Half of them. The bird has a built-in 3.7 V lithium cell that is already in it and charges over USB. The remote takes two AAA dry cells and those are not supplied — the box says so in the small print on the front. Buy a pair with it.
How long does it fly for, and how far?
We do not know yet, and we are not going to guess. Neither figure is printed on the box or given by the manufacturer. The hand-thrown version of the same body quotes twelve seconds of glide before it lands itself, but that is a different, unpowered product and it would be dishonest to quote it here. We do not quote a number the supplier cannot stand behind.
Is it a drone?
No. It has no rotors and it does not hover. It flaps, which means it flies forward in an arc and comes down when you stop it. Treat it as a powered bird, not as a quadcopter.
Will it survive being crashed?
That is what it is built for. The manufacturer sells this body as “fall resistant, durable impact resistant” and the wings are a membrane on a light frame, so the usual failure is a bent frame rather than a shattered one. It is still a plastic toy — it will not survive a car.
What age is it for?
The box we were sent is marked 14 years and over. Earlier printings of the same model carry 8+. We list the higher of the two, because when a manufacturer disagrees with itself the cautious figure is the one worth printing. It is not suitable for children under 3 in any printing.
Where is it flown — indoors or out?
Outdoors, in still air, with room around you. It is a light airframe with a large wing area, so a gust takes it where the gust wants to go. Indoors you will run out of room before it runs out of charge.
What is actually in the box?
The bird, the 2.4GHz remote and a USB charging cable. Nothing else — no spare wings, and no AAA cells for the remote.
