About this item

The Solis Astra is the serious one. Twelve interchangeable 5K disks go through a multi-element lens onto your ceiling, which is why the image has depth in it instead of being a scatter of dots. The head tilts for wall or ceiling, it runs off USB-C, and it is 15 cm tall.

  • Twelve real images, not one effect — A laser-and-diffraction projector has exactly one look and you get bored of it in a week. This is a slide projector: the thing on your ceiling is a photograph, and swapping the disk swaps the night sky completely. The disks are the reason this one stays plugged in.
  • The lens is where the money went — Depth in a projected galaxy comes from an image with real tonal range and a lens good enough to keep it. That is what separates this from the twenty-dollar version, and it is visible the moment both are on the same ceiling.
  • Ceiling or wall, your call — The head tilts and holds. Ceiling for lying under it, wall for using it as a backdrop behind a desk or a sofa. USB-C means it will run off a laptop, a plug or a power bank.
  • Type — Galaxy disk projector
  • Disks — 12 interchangeable 5K image disks, included
  • Optics — Multi-element lens (supplier: 12-layer)

What owners say

  • This is not the cheap one

I owned a twenty-dollar laser projector before this. Side by side it is not the same category - this puts an actual photograph on the ceiling with depth in it.
    Ellie K.
  • Twelve disks means twelve different rooms

Two weeks in and I have not repeated one. The moon disk and the aurora are the ones that get used most.
    Craig T.
  • No speaker, and I wish it had one

Completely my own fault for not reading. If you want music with it you need a different lamp or a separate speaker.
    Maria A.
  • USB-C and no battery is the right call

It cannot die halfway through an evening. Runs off the plug beside the bed or off a power bank if I want it somewhere else.
    Harry D.
  • The room has to be genuinely dark

Any light at all and it washes out. True of all projectors, but it means this is an after-lights-out product, not an evening one.
    Laura V.
  • The disks are the whole product

Swapping one takes three seconds and the ceiling is a different place. I keep the nebula one in on weeknights and the galaxy for company.
    Nathan B.
  • Sharp right out to the edges

My old one went soft and green at the corners. This holds detail across the whole throw, which I assume is the lens they keep going on about.
    Priya S.
  • Wish the disks had a case

They arrive in a sleeve and they are fingerprint magnets. I keep mine in a spectacle case now. Handle them by the rim.
    Tom W.
  • Turned a rented flat into something

White ceiling, no fittings allowed, nothing on the walls. This does more for the room than anything else I have bought for it.
    Beatriz M.
  • My daughter asks for the moon one

Every night. She is four. It has become part of getting her into bed rather than a thing she plays with.
    Owen R.
  • Head adjustment is stiff at first

It loosened up after a week. Now it stays exactly where I put it, which I would rather have than one that droops.
    Sinead F.
  • Worth the extra over the egg one

I have both. The egg is nicer to look at, this one is better on the ceiling. If the ceiling is the point, buy this.
    Daniel P.
  • Good, but read what it is

It is a disk projector. That means a still photograph, not moving clouds. I wanted movement and bought the wrong thing - my error, and it is described accurately on the page.
    Kyle H.
  • Quieter than I expected

There is no fan and nothing spins unless you set it spinning. In a bedroom that matters more than the specification list suggests.
    Alina G.
  • Used it for a nursery ceiling

Set low, aimed up, the soft one in. She watches it instead of fighting sleep. Third month of this working.
    Jonas L.
  • Bring your own plug

Cable in the box, no wall adapter. Every phone charger in the house works but worth knowing on the day it arrives.
    Rachel Q.
  • Better than the ones in the shops

Looked at three in a department store at twice the price. None of them had the disk system and all of them were the moving-dot kind.
    Peter Ainsworth
  • Ceiling height matters less than I feared

Ours is high and I expected it to go dim. It fills it. Further back just makes the image bigger and softer.
    Grace N.
  • Two of the disks are near-duplicates

Twelve disks, but a couple are very similar nebulae. Call it ten distinct ones. Still more than anything else at this price.
    Marcus J.
  • Sold me on the whole range

Bought this, then the ripple lamp, then the egg for my son. This was the one that started it.
    Hannah delaCruz
  • No app, no account, no updates

It is a projector. You plug it in and turn it on. I cannot express how much I wanted that.
    Steven O.
  • The disk slot needs a firm push

First one I was too gentle with and the image sat half in frame. Push until it clicks.
    Yasmin T.
  • Photographs do not do it justice

Phone cameras cannot capture it. In the room it is much better than any picture of it, including the ones on the listing.
    Chris Bellamy
  • Runs off a power bank in the tent

Took it camping. USB-C, no battery, so a power bank runs it all night. The kids thought it was the best part of the trip.
    Fiona McAllister
  • Wall mode is the forgotten feature

Everyone aims these at the ceiling. Pointed at a blank wall behind the sofa it is arguably better - you actually look at it.
    Adam K.
  • Three months, no complaints

Used most evenings. Nothing has loosened, dimmed or started buzzing, which is more than I can say for the last two lamps I bought.
    Ingrid S.
  • The one gift that landed this year

Bought for a nephew who has everything. It was the only thing still being used at Easter.
    Robert Vance
  • Fine, but it is a one-trick object

It does the ceiling beautifully and nothing else. No light for the room, no speaker, no clock. Know what you are buying.
    Dean A.
  • Small enough to travel with

Fits in a wash bag. Hotel rooms with white ceilings are suddenly much less grim.
    Melanie Roux
  • The aurora disk is worth the money alone

Green and violet across the whole ceiling, and it holds structure rather than smearing. My favourite of the twelve by a distance.
    Ivan D.
  • Not a night light

Too interesting to fall asleep under if you are the sort who watches it. My wife is out in five minutes, I am awake for an hour.
    Paul Mendes

Frequently asked questions

Is this different from the cheap star projectors?

Yes, and it is the main reason to buy it. The cheap ones are a laser and a rotating film: green dots that drift and never resolve. This puts a 5K photographic disk through a real lens. The image holds still and has depth.

Does the image move?

No. It is a still projection. Change the disk to change the sky.

Does it have a speaker or Bluetooth?

No. It is a projector. If you want a projector with a speaker in it, look at the Solis Ovum.

Does it need to be dark?

Yes. Like every projector, ambient light kills it. In daylight you will see nothing.

Is there a battery?

No, and that is deliberate - it runs off USB-C indefinitely rather than dying after three hours. It will run from a power bank if you want it cordless for an evening.

Can I buy more disks?

Twelve come with it. We do not stock spares yet, and we cannot promise that a disk from another maker will fit.

How big is the image?

The supplier quotes up to 130 square metres of coverage. That is its number. In a normal bedroom, expect the ceiling and the top of the walls.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are confirmed and processed within 2–3 business days (Monday to Friday, excluding Chinese public holidays), then typically arrive within 6–12 business days in the US, UK, Germany and the rest of Europe, or 8–15 business days in Canada (7–14 elsewhere), tracked all the way to your door.

Is shipping free?

Yes, on every order of $29.99 or more. Below $29.99, standard shipping is a flat $9.99, shown at checkout before you pay.

What is your return policy?

30-day returns, no questions asked. If it isn't right, contact us and we'll arrange the return.

Is there a warranty?

Every product carries a full 1-year warranty on top of the 30-day money-back promise.

Which payment methods do you accept?

All major cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay — processed through Shopify's encrypted, PCI-compliant checkout.

How do I track my order?

You'll get a tracking link by email as soon as your order ships, and you can check progress any time on our Track Order page.
