About this collection

Ambient light is the lamp you switch on for the room, not the task: a glow, a moving ceiling, something to look at as the day winds down. This collection gathers our night lights, projectors and mood lamps, and every page says plainly what each one can and cannot light.

For a ceiling full of sky, the galaxy projector with 12 HD discs and the star projector with 10 film slides throw sharp, still images rather than laser dots, while the dinosaur egg projector and the night light projector for kids add a Bluetooth speaker for bedtime. For moving water light there is the ocean wave projector light with speaker and the IP44 water ripple lamp for the bathroom.

Desk and shelf pieces include the jellyfish lamp, the lighthouse moon lamp, the moving sand art lamp and a touch bedside lamp with clock.

Choosing an ambient light

These are lights bought for the mood they create rather than for how much of a room they light. Start with where it will stand and whether it needs to run without a cable.

Which one is right for you

  • For the ceiling: galaxy projectors — the Astra with 12 interchangeable 5K disks, the Nova slide projector with a real focus ring, and the Ovum egg with a Bluetooth speaker.
  • For moving water light: the Lumen (with Bluetooth speaker) and the cordless Vesta, rated IP44 for a bathroom; both run about eight hours on a USB-C charge.
  • For a child's room: the Somnia projector plays lullabies over Bluetooth, and the Pharos lighthouse switches on by motion sensor at night.
  • For a desk or shelf: the Medusa jellyfish lamp, the Dune moving sand lamp and the Horae touch lamp with a digital clock.
  • For the car: Solis Glow interior, fiber-optic and underglow kits with remote or app control.

Seasonal lights live in Christmas decorations and Halloween decorations; car kits in automotive lighting.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a galaxy projector and a star projector here?
Both of ours are slide projectors that throw still, focused images. The galaxy projector uses 12 interchangeable 5K discs and a multi-element lens; the star projector uses 10 film slides, a focus ring and a USB gooseneck. The dinosaur egg projector is the one with a drifting nebula and a speaker.
Can any of them go in a bathroom?
Only the Solis Vesta water ripple lamp carries a rating (IP44, splash-resistant, not submersible). Keep the others dry.
Do any of these need an app?
No. They use buttons, touch controls or a remote, and the speaker models pair over plain Bluetooth.
Which lamps work without a cable?
The Lumen and Vesta water-ripple lamps, the Medusa, Horae, Ovum, Pharos and Somnia are rechargeable and run cordless. The Astra and Nova projectors run from USB power.
Do I need an app?
No for the home lamps — they use a remote, touch or a button. Only some Solis Glow car kits use a phone app, and they also work by remote.
Can I return a light?
Yes. You have 30 days from delivery to return it; the returns policy explains how.
